Landing back home, to views of outstretched land and spaced-out houses, I realized I’d been suffocating before. So I breathed in the humid St. Louis air.
Glass-filled, new, york, city. Windows miles high it seems. And none of it is worth tears shed over rent or concrete goggles or darting, uncertain subway eyes.
I gotta go back but I gotta get out.

I haven’t had time to write here, been working a job I hope to leave, been writing songs I hope to record.
Seen a lot of music lately. Gem Club at Glasslands was a stand-out.
I’m booking shows and trying to save some money to get the hell out of this city in one piece. Thinking about going South…
The past couple weeks have had the muses watching over.
The Anti-Folk Fest brought the Shivers into summer’s heat. A mellow set but the strength lies in the presence. Sounds that are cold yet alluring, inviting yet disturbing. You can’t help but feel as though you’ve been let in on a secret that wants to burst forth.
Huggabroomstock on August 14th was filled with bustle, familiar sounds, and dedicated drive. Great sets by The Mars Chronicles, The Everybody Knows, and Schwervon and I was outta there and onto the Tidal Arms 7” release show at The Studio at Webster Hall.
Tidal Arms brought the storm. I was utterly blown away by their ruptured melodies- fractured and angular. Sounds that spun deep webs beneath me, breaking with harsh whispers and sending me tumbling down the rabbit hole. They moved together, even whilst breaking apart. The drums were the life-force here, and my head whirled trying to understand how the pieces fit together in a way that was so jagged yet so organic to their groove. Definitely one of the best acts I’ve seen for some time. Memories bodily ingrained.
Last Monday was Amos’s goodbye party at the Open Stage and I must say he will be missed. He has brought a lot of warmth to the ’walk and I wish him well on his future adventures.
Tuesday was a time of carefree abandon and the D Train Riders brought the flare to Arlene’s Grocery. I see so much potential in Johnny Pacia, and I think the band will get tighter with time. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing how they grow, and I’ve a hunch they will flourish.
Finally, Thursday I played two round-robbin sets at Northeast Kingdom to a full, warm house. It was much fun, and I’m ever grateful to Richard Duke for being my curator as of late. I’ll be back there on September 15th with great songwriter and crooner Ian Fisher.

The pic is from my first gig at Googie’s Lounge last week. I love the space and I love the sound there. The sound guy and the staff were really friendly, too! Can’t wait to go back.
