What a week it has been. I feel like since the soiree at Tribes, things are picking up momentum. Monday was met with two open mics, one an unsettling sort of experience, but totally cured by going to Sidewalk later in the night and feeling so at home. I think it was actually good that I took the risk to go somewhere else, and then to feel it so strongly juxtaposed with Sidewalk, it just made me appreciate how wonderful that place is even more. Catching up with Will was fantastic. He seems so genuinely happy and happily married and I could really feel that energy. And watching Joe Crow beat Speaker at Scrabble was quite a fun time.
Can I just take a second to say that I’m listening to Jesse Lee via Ben Krieger’s recommendation and he is utterly incredible. Check here for his sounds.
Wednesday I played an impromptu gig at Roots Cafe in Park Slope, and had the honor of sharing the stage with M. Lamar. I’ve been a fan for some time, and he was very insightful in stage-talk, and of course floored us all with his rapturous voice. He is a force to be reckoned with.
Last night I played Googie’s Lounge for the first time, and I think it went pretty well. I’m just aching for a band again. I stopped at Tribes afterwards as Catweazle was getting out, just to hang with Steve, Charley and the crew. It’s like an artist’s playground over there.
All in all, a bloody good week.
xx
I don’t think words will adequately describe how magical last night was. You just gotta believe me.
…missing cuba
missing scotland…
Googie's Lounge (above the Living Room) show coming up!!!
Alex P was on sound and The Fools were at the bar. Bernard was hanging and Brook was preaching. It felt good. Like reclaiming old ground. Or getting buried in it.
Lou Reed’s voice sauntered and swung to the strangers in Grand Central jutting past. I was moving against the grain, languidly waiting for 8:24am to come and go.
I feel like it’s the calm before the storm, but a beautiful storm.
Last night I finally made it to Tribes. I’d been hearing about Steve and his magical home for years, and I guess it was finally the right time. Todo el mundo was there. Sidewalkers, anti-folkers, gypsies, troubadours, wheelers and dealers. Old friends and new music.
Steve has a way of allowing you to open up your Pandora’s box of dreams and doubts. I sat on the blind poet’s couch and we all shot the shit and schemed away.
Time stopped for the reunion.
Peeps, for some reason track names aren’t showing up in iTunes, though CD text should be included. Apologies, I’m workin’ on it!!
I submitted track info for “but the sun was a man” to Gracenote (previously CDDB), so all should be well in the next 48 hours. Then iTunes should recognize track names. Still not sure why checking “include CD text” didn’t work, though. Ideas?
Thanks for your patience!!
My CD came out on Monday, July 19th! I had a blast playing to a full house of lovely faces at Pete’s Candy Store. Thanks to the fans and thanks to Pete’s for being one of the kindest venues to musicians I’ve come across so far!!
